July 30: Narrative and Thresholds: Connecting the Dots
How the heck do you get students to wrap their heads around 13.8 billion years of history? What is a threshold of increasing complexity, anyway? In this session, we’ll:
- uncover how the BHP course structure helps students organize, connect, and understand the events, facts, people, and ideas that make up the history of the Universe
- dive into one of the earliest lessons in the course (heads-up, veterans, new content!), where you can be the student and (gulp) get comfortable with the science of the course.
PRE-PLC PREP:
- Download and review these activities and resources in advance of the PLC.
- Take a look at Teaching Big History, BHP’s free, online professional development course for teachers. Whether you’re new or veteran, you’ll get a lot more out of the PLC if you (re)familiarize yourself with the structure, skills, and routines of the BHP course. The section on Narrative and Thresholds is especially helpful for this PLC.
- Sign up for the online BHP Teacher Community on Yammer. Why? So you can continue to connect with and get moral support from your fellow BHP Teachers everywhere. Go on, now. Don’t be shy.
